# Build an Agent with Agent Builder

> Create an agent, describe what it should do in the build chat, and accept the changes it plans.

> [!NOTE]

> Agent Builder is available when Super Agent is turned on for your organization. If you don't see it, contact your Attention team.

An agent is an automation you build by chatting with Attention. You tell it what to do, it plans the steps, and you accept the plan before it runs.

## 1. Open Agent Builder

Go to **Agents → Agent Builder**. The **All agents** list shows every agent with its **Steps**, **Time created** and **Status**. Use the **Status** switch to turn an agent on or off.

To keep agents organized, use the **Folders** panel on the left:

* Click **+** next to **Folders**, enter a name and click **Create**.
* Click a folder to see only its agents, or **All agents** to see everything.
* To file an agent, open the **⋮** menu on its row and click **Move to folder**.

The same row menu has **Edit**, **Duplicate** and **Delete**.

## 2. Create an agent

Click **Create** and choose how to start:

* **AI guided setup** opens a five-step setup (see below).
* **Start from scratch** asks for a name, then opens the agent so you can describe it in the build chat.

To start from a template instead, click **Templates**. Filter by **Use case** or **Actions**, hover over a template and click **View info** to see its role and integrations, or **Use template** to start from it. Enter a name in **Name your agent** and click **Create**. The build chat sets up the agent from the template.

### Guided setup

**Create a new agent** walks you through five steps. Click **Next** after each one:

1. **Name**: give the agent a name.
2. **Agent instructions**: describe the agent's general behavior and standard operating procedure.
3. **Slack integration**: turn on **Respond to @Attention** if people should be able to mention the agent in Slack. In **Configure @Attention**, pick the **Slack connection** and the **Channels**, then click **Save Changes**.
4. **When does this agent act?**: search for and add the triggers that start the agent.
5. **What can this agent do?**: search for and add the tools it can use.

Click **Create Agent** on the last step. To create the agent with only a name, click **Skip all steps**. The agent opens in Agent Builder.

## 3. Describe the agent in the build chat

The agent page has a panel on the left with the **Build**, **General**, **Context** and **Run History** tabs. The plan is on the right.

On the **Build** tab, describe what you want in **Describe the agent you'd like to build**. Include what should start it, which data it should use and what it should produce. While Attention works, the plan shows **Building plan...**. Keep chatting to change anything.

### Answer questions

When Attention needs a decision, it asks a multiple-choice question in the chat:

1. Pick an option. Some questions accept more than one.
2. If you pick **Other**, type your answer in the box below the options.
3. When there are several questions, each one has a tab. Click **Next question** to move on and **Submit answers** when you're done.

To skip a question, click the close icon next to it (**Skip this question**).

### Capture a webhook

When the agent starts from a webhook, Attention needs to know what the incoming data looks like. A **Capture Webhook Schema** card appears with a URL:

1. Copy the URL and send a test request to it from the app that will call the agent. The card shows **Listening for webhook...** until the request arrives.
2. Check the fields Attention found. Click **Looks good** to use them, or **Send another** to try a different request.

If you're not ready to send a webhook, click **Tell me the fields**. Describe the fields in **Describe in text**, or list them in **Structured form**, then click **Continue with these fields**. Click **Skip for now** to continue without the fields.

## 4. Accept or reject the plan

The plan on the right lists the agent's steps in plain language. Click an item in a step to open it in the **Step Inspector**.

When the build chat changes an agent that's already published, the plan highlights the changes:

* Click **Accept** to publish them.
* Click **Reject** to throw them away.

Your choice is posted in the chat so Attention can continue. For an agent that hasn't been published yet, click **Publish** at the end of the plan.

To try the agent before you rely on it, click **Test Agent** above the plan.

## 5. Add instructions and context

* **General**: change **Slack Chat Mode** (**Respond to @Attention**) and the agent's **Instructions**.
* **Context**: **Attention data** is always on. To give the agent reference material such as a playbook, click **New file → New text document**, enter a name and click **Create**, then write the content. Click a file to edit it again.

Click **Update** at the top right to save your changes. To rename the agent, click the pencil next to its name.

## 6. Check run history

Open the **Run History** tab to see the agent's latest runs, with their status and start time. Test runs are labeled **Test Run**. Search by run ID, or click a run to see each step and its result. Click the refresh icon to load new runs.
